History Matters
History Matters by David McCullough(DMcC) In 1995, DMcC was honored with the National Book Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. Over the course of his lifetime, he was awarded fifty-six honorary degrees and more than 125 awards, including the Pulitzer Prize twice, the National Book Award twice, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He met each and every recognition with delight and gratitude. When he received this overarching award for contribution to the literary world of his country, he was honored indeed. These are his remarks delivered at the awards ceremony. Indifference to history isn’t just ignorant, it’s rude. It’s a form of ingratitude.
